DIY Burlap Pumpkin

Supplies Needed:

  • Burlap
  • Twine
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stem, I used sticks I cut from a grapevine wreath
  • Embellishments, I used Fall floral that I previously got from Michael’s
  • Scissors

Instructions:

I love making pumpkins and this one was so much fun!

First I cut out a circle from the burlap. The circle doesn’t have to be perfect. I used twine to sew the burlap. A yarn needle is good to use when sewing with twine.

I did a basic stitch around the whole border of the circle. Make sure to leave a tail at the beginning of the stitch and at the end.

To close the pumpkin gently pull on the twine tails. When the hole is still opened some add stuffing to the pumpkin. You can make it as plump as you would like.

Once your pumpkin is stuffed you can tie the pumpkin closed. Make sure to tie it pretty tight.

Then you can add a stem and embellishments to your pumpkin! I cut some twigs from a grapevine wreath to make my stem. I wrapped wire around the bottom of the sticks to hold them together. Then I added leaves and Fall flowers to the pumpkin.

Grapevine Pumpkin

Supplies Needed:

  • 8 Small Grapevine Wreaths
  • Brown Wire
  • 2 Wood Spools
  • Twine
  • Hot Glue Gun and Sticks
  • Spanish Moss
  • Greenery

Instructions:

This is a very simple craft, but is also a great addition to your fall home decor! I took the 8 small grapevine wreaths and used wire to gather them together.

I twisted the wire to hold the grapevine wreaths securely in place.

Pumpkin stems are so fun because you can use all kinds of materials to make them. I had these two small wood spools that I glued together to make the stem.

I used hot glue to wrap the twine around the spools. I added a little bit of hot glue at the beginning, middle, and end of the spools to keep the twine in place. I also put hot glue on the top of the spool and circled the twine on top.

Then I put hot glue on the bottom of the stem and placed it securely in the middle of the pumpkin.

I love to add Spanish moss to pumpkins! I put hot glue on the wreaths where I wanted the moss and adjusted it accordingly. Then added some greenery.

Fall Tree Decor

Felt Ball Pumpkins

Making pumpkins with these felt balls is so easy! I used shades of orange and white to make the pumpkins.

First I made a hole in the felt ball with my awl so that the stem could sink into the ball a little bit.

Then I used hot glue to glue on the small stems I cut. You could add other decorations, but I loved them plain. I didn’t add a hanger to them. I just stuck them into the tree.

Wood Bead Pumpkins

I wanted to use my wood beads for make some bigger pumpkin ornaments. You can make these as big or small as you want. I stringed some of the beads on the waxed thread and then did a double knot to make it into a circle.

Then I painted it with the Decoart Spiced Pumpkin paint.

Then I added a little bit of Spanish moss, a wood stem, and a green leaf.

Pumpkin Topper

I made the topper in a Facebook live video. You can check it out on the Blooming Resilient Facebook page.

I took the bottom of a mesh trash can that I had already cut out and painted it orange. I had precut a piece of lace to be the size of the mesh circle. I put it on top of the mesh circle and painted it orange as well. I used mod podge to get the lace to stick to the circle.

Then I added the stem, Spanish moss, and greenery!

DIY Kraft Paper Pumpkin

Supplies Needed:

  • Kraft Wrapping Paper
  • Waxed Thread
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
  • Orange and Brown Paint
  • Foam Brush

Instructions:

I first cut a large circle. You can cut the circle any size you want. You could make very small pumpkins for basket fillers or a big pumpkin to have placed around the house.

I used waxed thread to sew this pumpkin because it is very strong. I get my waxed thread on Amazon. It was very easy to sew. You can just do a basic stitch around the whole circle. Just be sure to leave the ends out of the front so you can pull the pumpkin closed. I used the needle to poke holes in the paper as I sewed.

Once you have the whole circle sewn you can start the process of closing the pumpkin. This is a little tricky because the paper might rip. To prevent this I pulled the thread with one hand and pushed the paper together with the other so that no area got too much tension.

Once it is mostly closed you can start adding stuffing! It can be as plump as you want! Once you have stuffed it with as much stuffing as you would like you can then close the hole by securely tying the thread together. I did a triple knot just to be sure it was closed tightly.

I used scraps from cutting the circle to make the stem. I just twisted the paper together and glued it with hot glue to hold it’s shape. Also make sure the bottom of the stem is wide enough to cover the hole on top of the pumpkin.

I painted the stem and the pumpkin separately before gluing them together. I used this spiced pumpkin paint for the pumpkin. I tried to cover the pumpkin with paint as much as possible, but didn’t worry too much about the creases. I used this dark chocolate paint for the stem. I covered the stem as much and possible, but didn’t worry about the original color showing through.

Then you can hot glue the stem on top and you have a pumpkin!! This was so fun and makes such a unique pumpkin!! I hope you will give this a try!! Comment below with your favorite pumpkin creations!
